Dental Hospital infection control by different types of dental hospital in Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: This study was conducted on 168 infection control personnel working in the dental hospitals in order to investigate current status and actual infection control conditions of different types of dental hospitals.
Method: In this study, 168 surveys were distributed to participants during the period from December 15, 2010 to January 18, 2011, Among them, 121 agreed to respond and their responses were analyzed using a statistical software PASW 18.0(SPSS Inc).
Result: Some key suggestions are made as a result 1. sterilization validity measure was highest for general hospitals at 69.2% as these hospitals carry out instruments sterilization validity tests once or more times a week. The sterilizer test measure was also highest for general hospitals at 69.22% with the tests conducted at least once a week. The result was same in the crown bacterial test. General hospitals showed the highest in this measure at 20.5%(p < 0.05) as these hospitals conduct the test more than once a week. 2. It was found that 66.7% of general hospitals implement more than 71% of staffs infection control that is mentioned in Infection Control Practice Guideline, and it was highest number among other types of dental hospitals. Whether more than 71% of microbial managements were conducted was also highest for general hospitals at 30.8%(p<0.05).
Conclusion: In conclusion, the overall infection control practices were best implemented in dental clinics at general hospitals with the highest rate in every measure. This may be attributed to systematic surveillance system, existence of designated infection control nurse, and better infection control systems in general hospitals.
